NavParent Verdict
Use a nebuliser only when prescribed by your paediatrician.
The Omron NE-C28 Piston Nebuliser (₹1,999–₹2,799) is the most clinically reliable option in India.
![]() For families needing a quieter, portable device for older children, the Omron MicroAIR U22 Mesh Nebuliser (₹4,999–₹6,999) is the best premium choice. |
⚠ Do not self-prescribe nebuliser treatment for a baby with a cold or congestion. Saline drops and a nasal aspirator are the correct first-line treatment for simple nasal congestion. Nebulised salbutamol, budesonide, and similar medications require prescription and medical supervision. |

How to use correctly — critical steps
• 1. Wash hands. Before handling any nebuliser component.
• 2. Correct mask size.Child mask must cover both nose and mouth fully — no gaps. Never use adult mask on a baby face.
• 3. Add medication as prescribed.Exact amount — do not dilute or increase dose.
• 4. Run until exhausted.Tap the cup at the end to bring last drops to centre. Do not stop early.
• 5. Clean immediately.Piston: wash cup and mask with warm soapy water, air dry. Mesh: rinse mesh unit with sterile water immediately.
The most common nebuliser mistake in India: using the adult mask on a baby to avoid the crying from the tighter child mask. The adult mask does not seal against a small face — most of the medication disperses into room air rather than reaching the airway. |
Frequently asked questions
My baby has a cold. Should I use the nebuliser?
No. A simple cold (viral URTI) does not require a nebuliser. Saline drops and a nasal aspirator are the correct first-line treatment. A nebuliser is for lower respiratory conditions — wheezing, bronchiolitis, asthma — where medication needs to reach the bronchial airways.
How long should each session last?
Until the medication is exhausted — not to a fixed time. When the cup begins to sputter and produce less mist, the medication is nearly gone. Tap the cup to bring remaining drops to the centre and continue 1–2 more minutes. Do not add more medication without medical guidance.
How do I clean the mesh nebuliser?
Rinse the mesh unit with sterile water immediately after every use — not tap water. Never use tap water on the mesh unit. Dried medication permanently clogs the mesh. Once per week, soak the mesh component in sterile water for 10 minutes if residue is visible.
